Reminders from Ms. Shelley
Two quick reminders:
1) As mentioned in the start of the year orientation, we have added more Sunday solo recitals to accommodate our growing student base.  As in the past, every student will participate in at least two of the recitals per year but rarely every single one.  You will be advised by your private teacher what is appropriate for your child. The administration has decided to not require teacher attendance at every single Sunday solo recital so as to not over burden out teachers with weekend activities.  If you teacher is not in attendance, please ask for assistance from one of the other teachers in attendance, if needed, and please do video tape your child and bring it to the next lesson for viewing.  We encourage our teachers to attend as much as possible but they cannot be expected to come to every school event as there are so many.
2) Our school’s makeup policy allows for 1 unexcused absence per semester HOWEVER it technically is for illness purposes only and MUST be called into the school’s office no later than 10am weekdays.  Our Suzuki Academy also requires that you additionally notify the teacher in all cases and call in by 7pm Friday eve for a Saturday excused absence.  PLEASE NOTE – you will only be offered up to two choices for the makeup.  After that, you will forfeit.  Also, there is no “makeup for a makeup”.  Meaning once you’ve agreed to a make-up, you cannot cancel and get another scheduling option.  PLEASE ALSO NOTE – if you miss in the last couple of weeks of school, you may have VERY LIMITED options due to the fact that we are required to get all of the lessons in by the end of the semester.  Meaning in a case like that, the makeup options you maybe be given could likely be very undesirable (during the school day, etc).  It is best if you work things out as much in advance as possible (so it’s not a good idea to let your child miss for last minute studying for exams because you may end of forfeiting).  Many of our teacher’s allow you to switch lessons with another family (not counting as your excused) or do the lesson via Skype (in the event you are out of town or cannot get to the school because of bad weather).
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Shelley
